چکیده

The condition of t-resilience stipulates that an n-process program is only obliged to make progress when at least n− t processes are correct. Put another way, the live sets, the collection of process sets such that progress is required if all the processes in one of these sets are correct, are all sets with at least n − t processes. In this paper we study what happens when the live sets are any arbitrary collection of sets L. We show that the power of L to solve distributed tasks is tightly related to the minimum hitting set of L, a minimum cardinality subset of processes that has a non-empty intersection with every live set. Thus, a necessary condition to make progress in the presence of L is that at least one member of the set is correct. For the special case of colorless tasks that allow participating processes to adopt input or output values of each other, we show that the set of tasks that can be solved L-resiliently is exactly captured by the size of the minimum hitting set of L. For general tasks, we characterize L-resilient solvability of tasks with respect to a limited notion of weak solvability: in every execution where all processes in some set in L are correct, outputs must be produced for every process in some (possibly different) participating set in L. Given a task T , we construct another task T ′ such that T is solvable weakly L-resiliently if and only if T ′ is solvable weakly wait-free.

A new security proof for FMNV continuous non-malleable encoding scheme

A non-malleable code is a variant of an encoding scheme which is resilient to tampering attacks. The main idea behind non-malleable coding is that the adversary should not be able to obtain any valuable information about the message. Non-malleable codes are used in tamper-resilient cryptography and protecting memories against tampering attacks. Many different types of non-malleability have alre...

Distributed Optimization Under Adversarial Nodes

We investigate the vulnerabilities of consensus-based distributed optimization protocols to nodes that deviate from the prescribed update rule (e.g., due to failures or adversarial attacks). We first characterize certain fundamental limitations on the performance of any distributed optimization algorithm in the presence of adversaries. We then propose a resilient distributed optimization algori...

Resilient Supplier Selection in a Supply Chain by a New Interval-Valued Fuzzy Group Decision Model Based on Possibilistic Statistical Concepts

Supplier selection is one the main concern in the context of supply chain networks by considering their global and competitive features. Resilient supplier selection as generally new idea has not been addressed properly in the literature under uncertain conditions. Therefore, in this paper, a new multi-criteria group decision-making (MCGDM) model is introduced with interval-valued fuzzy sets (I...

Intrusion-Resilient Secure Channels

We propose a new secure communication primitive called an Intrusion-Resilient Channel (IRC) that limits the damage resulting from key exposures and facilitates recovery. We define security against passive but mobile and highly adaptive adversaries capable of exposing even expired past secrets. We describe an intuitive channel construction using (as a black box) existing public key cryptosystems...
